May Workshops

I've been incredibly slack and haven't posted for ages, I do apologise, but I have a very, very good excuse!
Since May 16th, the brilliant Handi and I have been teaching/facilitating a total of 6 workshops, over a 10 day period, here in Melbourne at the Kew Masonic Centre.
Each and every class was an absolute joy to be a part of and the quality of the cakes produced has astounded us all, even Paris!
Both Handi and I have had the most incredible time and we were both very sad last night to say good-bye.
I really want to say a big hello to the wonderful students who attended, many of them from interstate and country Victoria and we really hope to see you all again in the future worshops we have planned.

I had to post some photos of our amazing students and their brilliant cakes.

Basics 101, the students were all a delight and the cakes were just wonderful.

Basics 102 some familiar faces from 101, plus some faces from our March worshops too, fantastic squares, gorgeous bows and the figurines were terrific.

Basics 103 was absolutely fantastic, the edges on the squares were razor sharp, the colours were beautiful and the magnolias were all great too.

A shot of just the cakes from Basics 103, aren't they fab? Bad lighting, sorry, but they really are brilliant!

The amazing 104 cakes and their very, very clever decorators. Handi and I were so pleased with the results of this class, the cakes and sugar orchids were brilliant. Just look at the fantastic colours!

Our fun and chatty cupcake class :) Cupcakes can be quite challenging and these students did a great job on their Children's cupcakes.

The Madhatter, which is the Basics 109 class, did a fantastic job. It also happened to be the first class I have taught all on my own, but luckily for me, Handi was there for moral support. It's a complex cake design and has driven many sane decorators mental, but the entire class were cool, calm and collected and created beautiful, colourful and very, very neat cakes. I was so proud of them all!

To all the students, please keep in touch, join the Planet Cake forum and let us know how you're going, we love to hear from you and see photos of all your creations.
Thanks for a great 10 days, I'm looking forward to the next set of workshops!

Seven more sleeps

So, it's just over a week to go until Handi and I once again team up for some fantastic workshops here in Melbourne.
We are beginning on Sunday May 17th, with the Basics 101, exploding stars cake, and then following up with the 102, 103, 104, 109 (the madhatter) and finally a cupcake class.
Most of the classes are now full to capacity, but there are still a couple of spaces available in both the 104 and the cupcake class for anyone who's interested.
I will be posting photos of the cakes we will be teaching over the next few days, and look forward to hearing your feedback.
The rest of the year looks like it's going to be an exciting one, with loads of classes planned between now and November, and also an appearance at the Royal Melbourne Show, I'll keep you updated on that!
Just for fun, here's what I have been working on this week at home, whilst getting the bits and pieces organised for next weekend.

It's based on a Madhatter, but with a Thomas the Tank Engine theme. There are so many different things you can do with the Madhatter shape, it's a fantastic, whimsical base for so many fun ideas.
We are holding another Madhatter class in Melbourne later this year.

Welcome to the Planet Cake Melbourne Blog

It's hard to believe that our second round of workshops is just over two weeks away.
Handi and I had a fantastic time in March, and we're all geared up for a stack more classes in May.
I now we are going to see some familar faces from our previous workshops, and also look forward to meeting a heap of new students too.
Exciting news! The Melbourne workshops are now listed for the rest of 2009. We're super excited about the popularity of the classes, and hope to bring many, many more workshops to Melbourne.
Check out the link to the Melbourne classes here.

The courses are selling fast, with most of our May classes at capacity already, so if you're thinking about signing up, don't wait, do it now!!!!!

More great news is that Planet Cake will be sponsoring the decorated cake competition at the Royal Melbourne Show in September. This means that the cake awarded "Best in Show" will receive a massive prize of $1000, generously donated by Paris Cutler. Hopefully it will inspire some of the wonderful Melbourne decorators to throw their hat in the ring and have a go this year.
